About Us
Immersed Fisheries is a family-run business and a leading name in Queensland’s beche-de-mer industry. Based in Cairns, we have spent years perfecting our craft while maintaining deep respect for the ocean. Our operations extend far beyond our home base and encompass the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea Marine Parks.
As a family business, we are committed to more than just fishing—we are stewards of the sea. Sustainability and safety are at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that sea cucumber stocks remain healthy for generations to come. We champion responsible harvesting practices, promote environmental conservation, and prioritize the well-being of our crew.
At the core of our operation is the FV THOR our primary vessel, supported by three to four smaller tenders. Each tender, crewed by two divers, is equipped with a hooker unit that provides surface-supplied air—allowing for efficient, sustainable, and ethical hand-harvesting of sea cucumbers.

​With nearly two decades of experience in the beche-de-mer industry, Rhys brings leadership, knowledge, and a hands-on work ethic to everything we do at Immersed Fisheries.
Rhys has been working in the industry for 18 years, starting from the deck and working his way up through every facet of the operation. His deep understanding of the fishery, combined with his commitment to sustainability and crew wellbeing, shapes the culture of the company today.
Under Rhys’s leadership, Immersed Fisheries has grown into a respected sea cucumber operation in Queensland. He believes in doing things the right way — building strong teams, using best-practice harvesting methods, and ensuring everyone onboard is safe, skilled, and supported.
